# Getting started

Choose the pool's pricing logic, configure how it trades and keep it operational. You can reuse Price Providers and extensions; custom development is optional.

## Before you start

Choose the chain, token pair and who will supply liquidity:

* **Your own capital only:** run a private pool. Pools accept outside deposits by default; configure deposit permissions to restrict them.
* **Outside LP capital + Your own capital:** follow [curator onboarding](/use-metric/provide-and-manage-liquidity/public-pools-and-curation.md) and choose a configuration that meets the intended [pool tier](/use-metric/provide-and-manage-liquidity/pool-tiers.md). Decide this before deploying: some settings can't be changed later.

Have the token addresses, pool-admin wallet and fee-recipient address ready.

## Choose pricing inputs

Prices can follow an offchain feed, another market or custom strategy logic.

* **Offchain inputs:** Maintain the feed yourself or use a trusted updater. Shared trusted feeds may already have one.
* **Onchain inputs:** Check the source contracts and whether the strategy still needs updates. An update-independent pool needs no price pusher.

Both setups need testing and monitoring.

## Build and launch

| Step | What you do | What you need before continuing |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| 1. [Build a Price Provider](/run-a-pool/build-a-price-provider.md) | Select or build the provider. | Provider address, correct token addresses and validated logic. |
| 2. [Build an extension](/run-a-pool/build-an-extension.md) | Select existing extensions or build your own. | Initialized extension addresses and their order. |
| 3. [Configure a pool](/run-a-pool/create-and-configure-a-pool.md) | Set bins, fees and permissions; create, fund and test the pool. | Successful quotes, swaps and withdrawals. |
| 4. [Operate a pool](/run-a-pool/price-updates-and-monitoring.md) | Monitor the pool and respond to failures. | Required updates, monitoring and failure response are configured. |

## Tooling

The [Open source kit](/run-a-pool/examples.md) is the entry point for beginners, with deployment and update-pusher tooling.
